I contacted Royal Homecare in March 2022 looking for a permanent, live-in carer for my husband, then 88 and suffering from dementia. Because his memory is poor, I did not want the kind of service offered by other homecare specialists as it entailed different people coming in at set hours morning and evening -- and I had heard that they tended to be impersonal and very rushed, as they had many others to look after. What I wanted was consistent day-to-day care which would be flexible and family oriented -- not a factory model which treated the client as if he/she were a product to be serviced.
What I discovered in Royal Homecare was a professional, well-organized company. Superbly client-oriented, the Dublin manager, Monica, tries her very best to find a good fit between family and carer and, during the time of their stay, is always available to answer concerns of any kind that might arise. I learn as much from her as I do from the carers about how we could help my husband handle his own difficult situation. When one carer needed to leave -- or when there was a particular need (say, for respite care) -- Monica was able to find someone to fill in; or, as now, another more permanent carer. In short, I have come to trust her assessment of any particular carers' particular contribution -- both in terms of pluses and minuses -- which helps me in turn to support them.
In short, I think Royal Homecare offers a service which is above and beyond what one might find elsewhere. One does not always expect such good judgement, compassion, and common sense from ordinary caregiving companies; for these reasons, Royal Homecare is an exception and should be known as exceptional.
